Sri Bahubali Kshetra
Venur is located on the banks of the river Phalguni, and was the capital city of Ajilas-the jain rulers. Venur is situated about 30kms from Dharmasthala. Veera Thimmannajila IV, one of the rulers of this dynasty, erected and consecrated the 37 feet tall monolithic statue of Sri Bahubali Swamy in 1604 AD. The pedestal on which the huge monolithic statue of Sri Bahubali was standing started crumbling. When the Trust took up the restoration work in August 1998, it discovered that the foundation itself was in a weak condition. Without disturbing the statue, the Trust with the help of experts, restored the pedestal and fortified the foundation. It took up 16 months for the project to be completed.
