Sri Chennakeshava Temple

Somanathapura is a village located about 20kms from K.R.Pete town. Sri Chennakeshava Temple though looks like that of Vijayanagara period, could be dated to 12th-13th century AD. The temple which was standing on a huge mound was in dilapidated condition and most of the stones were fell down around the site. During restoration work the whole temple was dismantled, old stones were cleaned and replaced with new stones in place of missing/damaged stones and re-built after strengthening the adhisthana. Suitable Shikara over garbhagriha was built. Prakara was built around the temple for protection. The restoration work of the temple took place during 2007-08. After restoration, daily pooja is now being performed in this temple attracting many devotees.
